Vaccinations are an important part of protecting your child from serious and preventable diseases.

At Sunshine Pediatrics, we provide routine childhood and adolescent immunizations as part of comprehensive pediatric preventive care. We review your child's vaccination history and help keep immunizations up to date based on age, medical history, previous vaccines, and current recommendations.

Childhood Immunizations

Children receive vaccines at different stages of growth, beginning during infancy and continuing through adolescence.

Routine childhood immunizations help protect against diseases such as:

  • Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B

  • Rotavirus

  • Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis

  • Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib)

  • Pneumococcal disease

  • Polio

  • Measles, mumps, and rubella

  • Chickenpox (varicella)

  • Influenza

  • Human papillomavirus (HPV)

  • Meningococcal disease

Your child's vaccination needs depend on age and previous immunization history. During your visit, we can review your child's records and discuss which vaccines are currently recommended.

Vaccinations During Well-Child Visits

Well-child visits are an ideal time to review your child's immunization history.

During these visits, we can check whether your child is up to date, discuss upcoming vaccines, answer questions, and administer recommended vaccines when appropriate.

Combining preventive care and vaccinations also gives us an opportunity to monitor your child's growth, development, and overall health.

Is Your Child Behind on Vaccinations?

If your child has missed vaccines or received vaccines at another doctor's office, school, pharmacy, or outside the United States, bring any available immunization records to your appointment.

We can review the records and determine which vaccines may still be needed.

In many situations, a delayed vaccine series does not need to be restarted. Your pediatrician can recommend an appropriate catch-up schedule based on your child's age and vaccination history.

Flu Vaccinations

Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for most children beginning at 6 months of age.

Because flu vaccines are seasonal, availability and timing may vary. Contact our office if you would like to know whether the current season's flu vaccine is available.

Vaccines for Preteens and Teenagers

Vaccinations remain important as children enter adolescence.

Depending on age and previous vaccination history, recommended adolescent vaccines may include:

  • Tdap

  • HPV

  • Meningococcal vaccines

  • Annual influenza vaccination

Well visits provide a convenient opportunity to review these vaccines as your child gets older.

Questions About Vaccines?

It's normal for parents to have questions about vaccines.

You may want to know why a particular vaccine is recommended, when it should be given, whether your child needs another dose, or what side effects to expect.

We encourage parents to discuss these questions with their pediatrician. Our goal is to provide clear information so you can understand the recommendations for your child.

If you're transferring your child's care to Sunshine Pediatrics, please bring or send us a copy of your child's available immunization records.

Having complete records helps us determine which vaccines your child has already received and what may be due next.
